The Analysis of the Relation between Baby Boomers¡¯ Social Capital Recognition and Social Capital Formation:Focusing on the Volunteering & Giving Activity

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate how social capital cognition and social capital formation are affected by life satisfaction among the baby boomers and then investigate the possibility of baby boomers doing a role as the subjects in building the social capital. The subject were 2,269 baby boomers who were selected in the First Korean Welfare Panel Study. The resulting data were analyzed with the statistical program AMOS 7.0 in order to produce structural equation modeling. They were also analyzed with an Aroian test to measure mediating effects. The major findings were as follows: First, social capital cognition was positively related to life satisfaction and also positive life satisfaction was positively related to social capital formation. Second, social capital cognition was positively related to social capital formation. That is, baby boomers can do a role as the subjects in building the social capital by revealing that the effects of social capital cognition on social capital formation mediated by life satisfaction directly and indirectly among this population. Finally, we discuss the implications and end by considering limitations of this study well as some suggestions for future investigation.
